Meet Arunas

Beautiful people making beautiful work. Raindrop is full of talented and creative characters. Just Raindrop Things is a blog series where we feature our Raindroppers.

What is your favorite brand and why?

I don’t really have one. If it tastes good or looks good, then it works for me.

How did you get started at Raindrop and what’s your favorite part of the job?

I used to film weddings with Thomas O’hara, and when he told me he’d be working at Raindrop as the Head of Video Production and that there was an opening for a videographer, I applied. My favorite part about working at Raindrop is that it allows me to grow as a videographer and as a person. Being able to work in big productions allows me to use cinematic cameras and high-end gear, which helps me to grow as a filmmaker. Also, being surrounded by people that have more experience than I do allows me to grow in many other ways, as does simply being around such an awesome team.

What movie inspires you the most as a videographer?

I watch a lot of different movies and tv shows, so it’s hard for me to single out one that inspires me the most. I will say though, now that I understand more about filmmaking, I enjoy watching many different genres of movies and tv shows (even ones I would have never watched before) and try to understand why the editor chose a certain shot or what emotion the lighting is meant to create in a specific scene. I pause and rewind movies often now to dissect them!

If you could choose one hobby to pick up tomorrow, what would it be?

I would probably pick up meditation or dancing. I’ve always wanted to get better at both of them but I either forget to do so, or I feel too tired to start. I know those are poor excuses, as both of them would likely energize me.

We know you moved here from Lithuania a few years ago. What made you decide to move to San Diego, and what is your favorite part about living here?

I studied at an International University in Lithuania where I met my wife, Amanda, who had gone there as a part of a study abroad program. She is originally from California and was the first one to get a job here. Even though we were overseas at the time, we decided to just go for it and relocate! I’m very glad that she opted for San Diego because I really enjoy living here. Even though I sometimes miss the four seasons of Lithuania, I do enjoy the t-shirt (and occasionally sweater) weather throughout the year here. Also, I love the diversity that San Diego has, and what a great place it has been to learn about different people and their cultures.
